SUBJECT:                 North Star Roller Girls Win "Rolling Along the River" Derby Tournament

Sioux City, IA (November 8, 2008) The North Star Roller Girls, Minneapolis’ own all women’s Roller Derby league, competed in the first “Rolling Along the River” roller derby tournament in Sioux City Iowa. This all women’s derby tournament hosted by the Sioux City roller Dame’s consisted of five all Star teams from across the Midwest. The North Star Roller Girls swept the tournament with a victory over the Minnesota Roller Girls in the finals. This victory over St Paul’s Minnesota Roller Girls was the first meeting between these two leagues. The North Star Roller Girls won this hard fought bout 42 –31 in a conservative match played by both teams.

Minneapolis (November 1, 2008) – The North Star Roller Girls are bringing the extreme sport of roller derby to downtown Minneapolis once again. Where they take on the Naptown Rollergirls from Indianapolis.  The last time these two teams met in Indianapolis the North Star Roller Girls emerged victorious and forward to sending Naptown back to Indianapolis defeated once again.

In addition to competing as athletes, each of the 80 women on the NSRG also contributes her unique talents and abilities to running this skater-owned and -operated league. Off the track, these women range in age from 21 to 46 and come from all walks of life, bringing to the league a wide range of professional and life experience.

Professionally, the women of the NSRG count among them corporate trainers, IT professionals, sales professionals, teachers, mortgage professionals, graphic designers, skilled artisans, project managers, aestheticians, logistics specialists, and a research scientist. Others are stay-at-home moms, graduate and law school students, work in warehouses, or wait tables. On the track, this otherwise diverse group of women is united by their competitive spirit and love of roller derby, and each one gives what she can to make the league a success.

Tickets cost $10 for General Admission and $12 for Trackside Seating. Tickets are two dollars more at the door on bout night.
