What’s a Jeerleader?

Derby is already too pretty for regular cheerleaders, so we have jeerleaders instead. What’s the difference?

Jeerleaders are more interesting than cheerleaders because they are willing to heckle and taunt the skaters. Fans can pay the Jeerleaders to ridicule the team they hate and cheer on the team they adore! Jeerleader payola goes to our league charity, Bridging (bridging.org), an organization that aims to help families bridge the gap between homelessness and stability as they transition out of poverty.

While the role of a jeerleader is primarily to welcome and rile up fans, they do not do cute, coordinated dance-line routines, so don’t ask. This is derby, my friends, not an episode of Glee. If you are very good, there may be costumes, but no promises.
